Factors Affect Mechanical Properties of Mn Steel Castings

During casting processes of the Mn steel castings, a lot factors will affect the final mechnical properties.Below, just list some of the major factors.

A. Carbides affects

Percentage of carbide during mn steel melting process will affect the mechanical properties of the Mn steel castings. High percentage of carbide will reduce the impact result and tensile strength of the castings.Detail explanation see the Production Process of the Mn Steel Castings.

B.Non-ferrous elements affects

During solidation of the Mn steel water,a lot of oxidized Mn sticked to the Mn steel castings surfaces, which increases the crack possibility on the casting surfaces. As a result, the impact property and the strength are reduced.

C.Chemical elements affects

a.Affects caused by percentage of C & Mn:low percentage of C will reduce the hardeness of the products, thus to decrease the strength of the castings; but high percentage of C will increase the frangibility of the Mn steel castings. Low percentage of Mn will not enough for making austenite structures. So,during melting process, percentages of C & Mn should be reasonable controlled.

b.Affects caused by Si elements:Si elements can be chemical reacted with Carbon elements in the austenite structures, thus to drease the wear resistance and impact strength of the Mn steel castings. So,percentage of Si elements should be controlled at a lowest level.

c.Affects caused by P elements:higher S percentage will reduce the impact strength of and cause cracks on the Mn steel castings.

d.Affects caused by S elements:elements S can be easily chemical reacted with Mn to get a kind o f MnS material. Such material stay with furnance scrapes. Thus, the S elements should be controlled as less as possible to ensure the percentage of Mn inside the Mn steel castings.
